Axe Big Brother, says ex-Channel 4 boss
By Chris Hastings and Tom Harper, Sunday Telegraph

Big Brother is a "grotesque travesty" of what Channel 4 is supposed to be about and should be taken off the air for good, according to a former chairman of the channel.

Former Channel 4 chairman Vanni Treves: 'Much of what is shown on Big Brother is grotesque'

Vanni Treves, who stood down as Channel 4's chairman in 2003, urged Andy Duncan, the channel's current chief executive, to pull the plug on the controversial programme which, he said, exploited the "unhappy and the unfortunate". Mr Treves's condemnation came as the exodus of Big Brother's biggest commercial backers gathered pace.

United Biscuits and Cobra Beer, among companies that supply the Big Brother house with products including food, furniture, electrical goods and other supplies, revealed they had asked for their products to be removed from the show.

The new boycotts are a major blow for Channel 4 which is heavily dependent on the revenue that the programme generates.

Programme bosses had hoped the eviction of Jade Goody, 25, on Friday night would draw a line under the race row that caused furious protests around the world.

I doubt very much if Channel 4 will take any notice of an ex chairman.
