Aisleyne was "Up Up and Away" (well almost!) on the cold clear morning of 10
December 2009. She had been invited to take a hot-air balloon trip to publicise
the campaign to save Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield. The event was organised by
Aisleyne's friend Andrew Charalambous, property tycoon, environmentalist and
health guru - and now Conservative candidate for the Edmonton parliamentary
constituency.
Unfortunately conditions proved to be too windy for a safe launch in a
relatively built up area. Even a pair of Landrovers weren't able to hold the
balloon in check at around 20 feet off the ground. So all photo-opportunities
involving Andrew, Aisleyne and some Sun girls took place around the basket only.
Aisleyne was wearing the leather biker jacket she was given when she attended
the Ed Hardy launch a few nights previously.
The event was also being held to publicise the launch of EdmontonTV, a
community channel also sponsored by Andrew Charalambous. So Aisleyne supported
the launch by giving an interview to the new station.
Asked first about her life since Big Brother she said, "It's been mental,
mayhem, with modelling, TV shows, comedy acting for Charlie Brooker, writing my
blog for Reveal magazine when BB's on. I love BB but the blog means I have to
watch every night. It ruins my social life."
Turning to her autobiography "Aisleyne: Surviving Guns, Gangs and Glamour" -
Aisleyne said that it wasn't a book about being on Big Brother. "I wanted to
write it before that", she stressed, "It's about growing up in North London,
moving at 16 into hostels, going through gangs and gun culture, about losing
loved ones to gun crime. My boyfriend was shot and sadly passed away. I've led
such a varied life. There are so many lessons I want to share with the youth of
today."
"I think EdmontonTV community channel is a brilliant idea," Aisleyne added.
"It's so clever. It can reach out and give kids confidence to write and perform
plays or music or dancing and know that people can see their performances."
Aisleyne's full interview for EdmontonTV can be seen in the video
section.
