Aisleyne's Biography     01 February 2007

Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace was born in London on December 28th 1978. Her early life was one of extremes – from the glamour of mixing with the pop icons of the day, to the despair of living in a hostel. She saw at close quarters the gun culture, which has grown to dominate parts of some inner cities.

Her parents, Sophia Horgan and Stephen Wallace, split when she was only three. Her mother went on to raise Aisleyne in a small flat in Kentish Town, North London, sending her to after-school clubs while she worked as a fashion designer, making clothes for Boy George, punk singer Siouxsie Sioux and others.

Throughout her childhood, Aisleyne was required to follow her mother’s strict Jehovah’s Witness code, with no Christmas or birthday presents permitted. At 16, Aisleyne left home after a disagreement with her mother, living in a hostel where she was given space in a warden-operated shared flat with drug addicts, runaways and girls who had been abused. Despite her situation, Aisleyne continued her college education, studying fashion, design and textiles.

Shortly after her 18th birthday Aisleyne was reunited with her father. Bolstered by this turn of events, she won a place to study buying and merchandising at The London College of Fashion. It was to support herself whilst at college that Aisleyne started working as a model and promotions girl, going on to achieve growing success through a mixture of hard work and the warm personality which has become her trademark. Then, early in 2006, Aisleyne agreed to accompany a friend attending the London auditions for Big Brother 7, resulting in her own selection as a contestant.

In May 2006, Aisleyne entered the Big Brother House, and immediately became a central figure, remembered for her "know yourself" remark. Going through an emotional journey during the series, Aisleyne finished third and top female to widespread popular acclaim.

Since Big Brother, Aisleyne hasn’t had time to pause for breathe. Rarely out of the public eye, she has established herself as a successful fashion designer, magazine columnist, agony aunt, TV personality, radio presenter and model.

In August 2007, Aisleyne made the significant decision to take direct control of her career through her own management company, Aisleyne Limited.

Aisleyne’s own clothing label, ‘Unique by Aisleyne’, consists of dresses, trousers, coats and tops for self-confident, independent women seeking to dress individually. Having studied at The London College of Fashion, and been immersed in fashion design from childhood, Aisleyne is able to bring her own flair plus a combination of glamour and affordability to her creations. 'Unique by Aisleyne' is available through retailers in UK and Republic of Ireland, plus online at www.uniquebyaisleyne.com.

Aisleyne makes frequent appearances in a wide variety of light entertainment and documentary television programmes on BBC, ITV and Channel 4. Her varied and busy celebrity lifestyle has been the subject of the reality TV series ‘Aisleyne’.

Her radio work has included a stint co-hosting the Morning Show on Choice FM plus guest appearances on a variety of other radio stations. It has even extended to bringing her own unique style to football reporting when she covered a Chelsea v Man City match for the BBC's Asian Network.

Aisleyne has regularly featured in women’s magazines. She has written a fortnightly advice column for More magazine, and extensively covered Big Brother series 8 (2007) and series 9 (2008) for Reveal magazine. She has been the subject of fashion features in OK! Magazine and various women's publications.

Aisleyne's autobiography 'Aisleyne: Surviving Guns, Gangs and Glamour' is being published by Random House/Mainstream on 7th May 2009.

Spurred on by her own success, Aisleyne is also committed to helping those less fortunate than herself. She is proud to be patron of Brain Tumour UK, actively helping to raise funds for the charity supporting research into an illness which holds personal significance for her. Aisleyne was the face of "No Smoking Day 2008", and also actively supported the "Put the Knives and Guns Down!" campaign.
